Joanna Gaines Transformed Her Son’s Nursery into a Dreamy, Light-Filled Butler’s Pantry

Published at: 2025-07-01

When Joanna Gaines imagines a space, it’s about what she wants the room to feel like. That’s exactly the heart behind the latest Mini Reni episode, where the Fixer Upper star shared an especially meaningful transformation: turning her youngest son Crew’s former nursery into an inspiring new butler’s pantry.

The pantry, tucked just off her farmhouse kitchen, is more than just a clever storage solution, it’s a deeply personal renovation.

Joanna Gaines Shared a Peek at What’s Blooming in Her Garden This Spring

From Nursery to Nostalgic Nook

In Episode 6 of the Magnolia original series Mini Reni, Joanna expanded her kitchen into the adjacent room that once belonged to Crew, the youngest of the Gaines family. With Crew moving into a “big kids’ room,” Gaines saw an opportunity to finally create the butler’s pantry she has always dreamed of: one that’s equal parts charming, functional, and full of soul.

Before the makeover, the room was a small, bright space full of baby essentials. Now, it has been reimagined with her signature style—elevated but livable—and deeply tied to the family’s story.

A Pantry with Purpose and Personality

Joanna’s design guidelines for the space? Tucked Away, Inspiring, Charming, Creative. Outfitted with ceiling-height custom cabinetry, soapstone counters, and beautiful brass hardware, the pantry is quietly luxurious while still practical enough for everyday use.

Natural light pours in through the windows, highlighting the soft textures and muted palette. A classic farmhouse sink and open shelving add functionality, while curated accessories, like stacked mixing bowls, rustic cutting boards, and labeled canisters, bring plenty of warmth.

There’s even a playful nod to Jo’s creative side: one corner features a tidy workstation for writing recipes, meal planning, or just sipping coffee in peace.

The Emotional Layers Behind the Design

While visually stunning, what sets this project apart is the emotional depth behind it. For Jo, this room is layered with meaning and has been transformed into a sanctuary of creativity and nourishment.

"Knowing what that room held, our first years at the farm as our living room to Crew’s little nursery, the end use is this butler’s pantry. It’s fully encapsulating some of the best moments of our life," Gaines said in the press release.

The intentionality behind every design choice is apparent, from the calming colors to the vintage-style finishes. Even the smallest touches, like weck jars and glass-front cabinets, feel personal and nostalgic.
